Our last night trekking in the Cordillera Huayhuash we camped in the beautiful Jahuacocha valley. The views to the east of Rondoy, Mituraju, Jirishanca (pictured), Yerupaja Chico and Yerupaja looking down on the lakes of Solteracocha and Jahuacocha dominated the view.
Just down-valley from our camp, on top of a prominent glacial moraine sits the cross. It dominates the views both up- and down-valley. A number of years ago a lightening strike hit this concrete and steel cross and destroyed the left arm.
You can get an idea of the size of the cross if you find the donkey hiding behind it at the bottom right.
