This post begins a series of entries from my journal from 2014.
March 7, 2014
So tomorrow it begins. Am I nervous? Yes, but in an excited, anxious way.
I had the idea three years ago (March, 2011) after Pippa and I paddled our tandem kayak for a few days on Lake Powell. The trip was great but it was too short and we really didn't get to see much of the lake since it's so big. So I hatched this plan to come back and see more of it. The idea is to paddle from Antelope Point Marina on the southwest end of the lake to Bullfrog Marina on the northeast end. Tonight I'm hunkered down in a tent next to the river in Paria, Utah trying, unsuccessfully, to hide from the wind and get some sleep.
I mentioned my plans few months ago to our neighbors, Chris and Anna, who are both are avid kayakers and they were extremely jealous. So I invited them to join me for a few days (what else could I do?) and they jumped at the offer. I can hear them now shuffling around in their tent trying to get settled in for the night. Since they only have a week of spring break from the U they're going to paddle out for three days and then turn around and come back to Antelope Point while I paddle on alone.
If everything goes as planned, I'll arrive in Bullfrog on the morning of March 29 where Pippa will pick me up and shuttle me back home. That gives me 21 days on the lake; 18 of which I'll be alone. Yikes!
